My Heat Pump Is Not Heating, What Should I Do?

By Kyle Rafter - December 16, 2025

Whether you have a single room heat pump or a ducted heat pump in your home, if your heat pump is not heating properly, there are several possible causes, ranging from incorrect settings to maintenance issues. This article will help you figure out why your Fujitsu heat pump isn’t heating, with tips on how to fix it yourself or when to call a professional to restore warmth and comfort.

Common Reasons Why My Heat Pump is Not Blowing Hot Air

When your heat pump cools but doesn’t heat, one of the following issues could be the cause:

  • The thermostat is set up wrong: The wrong settings can prevent the unit from producing warm air, so the heat pump cools but doesn’t heat.

  • Dirty or clogged filters: Dirty or clogged filters restrict airflow and reduce efficiency, which is a common reason a heat pump is not blowing hot air.

  • Outdoor unit issues: Ice, debris or dirt buildup on the outdoor coils can prevent the system from absorbing and transferring heat effectively.

  • Low refrigerant levels: Get a technician to take a look for a refrigerant leak.

  • Electrical or component issues – Faulty capacitors, fans or compressors can also stop your heat pump from producing cool air.

Fujitsu Heat Pump Not Heating? Here are some Solutions

If your Fujitsu heat pump is blowing cold air in heat mode, there are several simple checks that you can make before calling a technician:

  • When your heat pump is not heating, take time to clean the filters – Regularly cleaning your heat pump filters helps maintain strong airflow and consistent heating performance.

  • Replace the worn-out or damaged filters – With genuine Fujitsu parts which you can easily purchase through authorised Fujitsu dealers and retailers.

  • Double-check heat mode and temperature settings – Check that the system is in heating mode and ensure the temperature is higher than the current room temperature.

  • Inspect external components – Keeping at least 30–50 cm of clear space around the unit allows air to circulate freely.

  • Perform a reset – Press the small ‘RESET’ button on your remote control (usually near the bottom), wait a few minutes and restart the system to see if heating resumes.

  • Book regular servicing – Once a year helps keep your system in top condition and avoid your heat pump not heating properly.

If your Fujitsu heat pump blows cold air in heat mode or still isn’t providing enough warmth after you’ve made these checks, contact Fujitsu on 04 568 8761 to talk to a qualified technician about why your heat pump is blowing hot air or to set up a heat pump service.
