Special Children's Christmas Party
The annual Special Children’s Christmas Party is a truly magical day dedicated to bringing joy, support, and hope to children aged 3 to 12 who face life-threatening illnesses, physical or intellectual challenges, domestic violence, or come from underprivileged backgrounds. The event creates a festive atmosphere with a toy cave where each child receives two special gifts, exciting inflatable play areas, costumed characters, delicious food, and live performances – all designed to make the day unforgettable for the children and their families.
In 2025, Wellington welcomed around 3,000 children, one of the largest turnouts yet. For many, this may be their only Christmas or even their last, which is why every detail matters. From warm smiles to shared laughter, every gesture adds sparkle to their day. Witnessing the joy and hearing the stories from families is deeply rewarding and reminds us why this event is so important.
Nicole Sole, Fujitsu General’s Inventory Controller, has volunteered at the Wellington Special Children’s Christmas Party for six years, saying the joy and smiles of the children and families make the experience truly priceless. Nicole sums up the impact of her volunteering, “There is no greater feeling than being part of this incredible event, bringing a little light, love, and hope into the lives of these children and their families during the holiday season.”

Kirsten's Volunteering Story
I’m proud to support Good B*tches Baking NZ (GBB), having volunteered as a baker for the past three years to create sweet treats that brighten the days of people going through tough times. In the Wellington chapter alone, GBB has an incredible 516 bakers supporting 67 recipient organisations, delivering more than 5,800 boxes of treats in the past 12 months. I’ve had the privilege of baking for organisations such as Birthright Hutt Valley, Lower Hutt Food Bank, Sexual Abuse Support and Healing, Te Omanga Hospice, Women’s Refuge, and many other amazing charities.
Since going on maternity leave in 2024, I’ve expanded my involvement by joining the Box Committee, where I coordinate the baking boxes for collection by other volunteer bakers. This role has given me the chance to connect with many of the wonderful local volunteers and deepen my sense of community.
Twice a month, I bake and deliver delicious treats with the hope of bringing comfort and a smile to those who need it most. It’s a small gesture that makes a big difference, and I’m truly grateful to be part of such a caring and compassionate network.
